Tom Jackson, Craig Campbell, and Randy Houser Country-fy CityPlace thanks to WIRK

By at July 13, 2011 | 3:08 pm | 0 Comment

Another night of perfect weather (hot, but nicely overcast) set the stage for Tom Jackson to open another of the WIRK free concert series at CityPlace. Jackson opened for Craig Campbell and Randy Houser in a night of incredible country music right in DOwntown West Palm. Kudos to WIRK for bringing three straight hours of great country music to CityPlace. And some folks

Not just great martinis; great food and great music at Blue Martini

By at July 10, 2011 | 5:57 pm | 0 Comment

You would be hard pressed to find anyone downtown that has more great deals going on every day than Blue Martini, one of which is their happy hour seven days a week (we'll have details soon on our Happy Hour tab). We stopped by there on a Saturday, and a band I hadn't heard before was setting up, so we lingered to hear how they sounded, and enjoyed a couple of items off

Cover Up Covers Foo Fighters at World of Beer (WOB)

By at July 8, 2011 | 11:00 am | 0 Comment

The lead singer for Cover Up could has the kind of energy level that normally you see at a Flogging Molly concert: Jumping up on tables, serenading the ladies at the bar (from the top of the bar), playing the crowd from one end of the bar to the other, from one end of the song to the other. Combine that with dozens of dozens of beers (not ingested, but available) and you

No CBN (and no rain) but GREAT original music with the Heavy Pets!

By at July 8, 2011 | 10:09 am | 0 Comment

Roxy's 10-2 is one of the few local venues that host one of the hottest jam bands in the country, the Heavy Pets. (Are their fans called PetHeads?) They've played festivals such as Langerado Music Festival with the likes of  Ben Harper, The Flaming Lips, G Love, and Robert Randolph.  You could have heard them at Bonnaroo, moe.down,  Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival,

Fourth on Flagler, rocking the stages and the skies

By at July 7, 2011 | 9:02 am | 0 Comment

The rain (pretty much) stayed away from downtown West Palm but the crowds didn't, making for an enjoyable day of music.  A total of five bands were playing on Clematis and the Meyer;  I caught two. One of the high points? Mighty Mongo played the Meyer and put on a great high energy show, mixing up covers and their own original material. My favorite cover was Whole

Sunday is Funday in the “Biz” at Roxy’s Rooftop Bar

By at July 6, 2011 | 2:22 am | 0 Comment

Maybe it was just because Monday was a holiday (the 4th of July), or maybe it's always packed out crazy fun on Roxy's roof on Sunday nights... perfectly covered 80's music (and some other decades) married to 1/2 price beers for those employed in the service industry makes for a welcome break for the hard working downtown crowd. Great music! Magic Hat on

Some of the Best Music to be found is at the Christ Fellowship Night of Worship

By at July 5, 2011 | 11:27 pm | 0 Comment

This was a tough place to get some video footage on the eve of the 4th of July, because during the Night of Worship the Harriet Himmel was packed wall to wall with young and old enjoying the exceptional quality of music and worship here in Christ Fellowship's downtown campus. While the lighting was subdued (with candles illuminating the background), the music was not.

Downtown West Palm: Not just a lot of bands; a lot of GREAT bands!

By at July 5, 2011 | 10:29 pm | 0 Comment

A friend of mine told me about the great happy hour at Blue Martini in West Palm.  It goes until eight (you can find the menu under our Happy Hour section) and the tenderloin I ordered was great!  The band was setting up while I ate... I have to confess, I really haven't considered Blue Martini as one of the spots I would frequent to listen to the band. I have a couple

Free Block Party Tonight!

By at July 2, 2011 | 2:46 pm | 0 Comment

I just met Drew the manager o the new LongBoards restaurant opening tonight.  They are busy working on the final touches so I didn't want to take to much of his time.  The paper is off the windows and I was able to walk around inside.  It's like stepping back in time into a Malibu bar on the water.  It's not just palm trees and beach balls that take up the space that

On Sundays The Harriet Himmel Becomes a (Rocking) Church.

By at June 30, 2011 | 2:24 am | 0 Comment

Though it's been converted for quite some time now from a church to a multi-purpose concert hall and event location, on Sundays the Harriet Himmel becomes a church again for the downtown campus of South Florida's Christ Fellowship. While there's lots of music of all kinds all over downtown West Palm Beach, some of the area's most talented young musicians and singers

Acoustic Originals to Rocking Covers in West Palm Thursday

By at June 24, 2011 | 10:45 am | 0 Comment

Started out Thursday with visit to Kona Grill's happy hour (and it is a great one, with 1/2 off selected Sushi and appetizers) and I kept hearing the music wafting in as patrons went out to the patio, so I grabbed my Zoom and caught this great singer from Lake Worth (Shauna Sweeney) playing on the deck at the Kona Grill in West Palm. Turns out she has a band and a great

For A Couple of Hours, CityPlace became the Country Music Capitol of Florida… with Ty Stone, Steve Holy, and Phil Vassar

By at June 23, 2011 | 2:52 am | 0 Comment

It was just about as hot as South Florida can get, and the performers were just about as hot as Country music can get, when Ty Stone, Steve Holy, and Phil Vassar took the stage at the CityPlace plaza, courtesy of 107.9 WIRK, Budweiser, and Taste of CityPlace. I thought the guitar tech was finishing up for Steve Holy to start the show when Ty Stone plopped himself on

Journey’s Audio Clones (Odyssey Road) perform at BB Kings West Palm

By at June 22, 2011 | 11:02 am | 1 Comments

The Journey Tribute band Odyssey Road brought a good sized crowd into BB King's on a Tuesday night, and justly so; they covered Journey to the note. While they don't attempt the look (although Paulie G. does look a bit like Schon, albeit taller and left-handed) the lead vocals by James "Bubba" Sanderford matched Steve Perry's, and the harmonies were impeccable. The

In the Dub Makes Monday Interesting at Reef Rum West Palm

By at June 22, 2011 | 5:55 am | 0 Comment

While I'm not a big fan of Reggae, I could sit and listen to these guys for a good while... the band had a great balance of mix of sound, even squished into the corner by the door. The bar had Red Stripe and Captain Jacks on special, and was as busy as they could want to be on a Monday night. Here's another video from another Monday: These boys do a great

Monday night? In the Biz? Better be at World of Beer!

By at June 20, 2011 | 10:26 pm | 0 Comment

World of Beer has added a great bonus to their service industry night (Monday's 9 til close). Bryan Bobo's rockin' country band put the proverbial petal to the metal with driving country music Monday night. They had more sound coming out of the little loft than would seem possible; Bryan's acoustic guitar drove the show, with sweet leads from the Tele in the 4 piece band

Even the street musicians excel in West Palm Beach…

By at June 19, 2011 | 11:36 pm | 0 Comment

I have the philosophy that whenever I see a street musician, I'll drop (at least) a buck in the hat; Josh Meehan, playing on the street Sunday in West Palm,  was well worth that, and more.  He was playing on Clematis, on his way from New Jersey to California via South Florida.  His plan is to continue his walk across the country but he's planning to play West Palm

One of the better tribute bands to hit West Palm's Sunday at the Meyer enjoyed a enthusiastic crowd of Rod Stewart fans for this month's Sunday at the Meyer.  The lead singer -- Rick St James -- and his Forever Young band were up to the task of reproducing all the hits that Stewart is renowned for... and if you didn't know you were watching a tribute, you would think

CBN/Brass Evolution

Brass Evolution at CBN pulled out all the stops.  12-14 musicians on stage at anytime kept the crowd on their feet.  Yes, they played all of the hits from the 70's and 80's that featured horns as expected,  "Soul Man" with all of the steps was my favorite.   That was only the beginning.  A rhythm section and the 3 vocalists mixed it up and played everything
