If You Work “In The Biz,” There’s Some Affordable Beer and Bites in Your Future

If you work in the hospitality industry in Downtown West Palm, it can be “feast or famine” (monetarily speaking), depending on a) the “season” b) who’s in town c) the “season” d) the weather e) the “season.”  But even if the tips are sparse, there are some feasting perks for being “In The Biz,” (or in SIN — Service Industry Night, as some places put it).  Here’s a few of the perks that we’ve found:

World Of Beer: Monday nights are their “In the Biz” night; bring in proof of employment and ID and they’ll give you a Service Industry Card: 1/2 off their wonderful selection of draft beers on Monday nights after 9pm.  They usually have a great country band playing, too.  This week they had Samantha Russell in her acoustic configuration; that girl has one of the best country voices I’ve heard around here, doing a great job covering the likes of KT Tunstall, Miranda Lambert, and Sugarland (not an easy job)  and does all sorts of other genres too.  More at the end of this blog about Samantha (and some more video).

Roxy’s Rooftop (Sky309): Sunday nights starting at 10pm, live music with the Spasmatics and 1/2 drafts (they have Magic Hat on tap!).  They call it “Sunday Funday;” the Spasmatics are one of the best 80’s cover bands around.  While Roxy’s doesn’t have quite the selection of beer the WOB does, they’ve got some great ones!

Blue Martini: They have two tiers of benefits for Service Industry:  Hospitality blue (in the biz) 7 days a week, which gives half priced drinks to all restaurant and hotel staff with proof of employment after 11pm; and Monday’s  “House Of Sin” (service industry night) with $7 martini’s, bottle specials, and discounted drinks all night long (ask for more details)

BB Kings: This was a hard card to snag.  The BB King’s Website says ITB starts at 10pm every night, but they may extend the courtesy to you earlier (if you can talk the ITB card out of them).  This card is a great deal:  Free Cover (except special events); 50% off all drinks, and 20% off food.  Wednesdays in July they have David Shelley and Bluestone, which is hands down one of the best electric blues bands I’ve heard.

Kona Grill: Not only are they one of the few places to have a late  “reverse” happy hour (including 1/2 off Sushi), they offer 20% off for CityPlace service industry workers.  They also have great acoustic music on Thursday afternoon/early evening outside on the patio.  Great, great food there too!

We’ll be on the lookout for other deals, and post them under this category as we find them.

So there’s some of the benefits program for you under-appreciated hospitality warriors of DOwntown West Palm Beach!  And here’s some more video of the great Samantha Russell (sorry for the audio quality; WOB has a great sound system but a lot of background noise, but you’ll get the idea…
